Did you know that House of Iran is the most active place, outside the borders of Iran, showcasing Persian culture? Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors, from all over the world, come here and learn about the art, history and culture of Iran. House of Iran is a non-profit, non-political and non-sectarian organization that is completely run by volunteers. This unique place is located in the heart of world famous Balboa Park - the jewel of San Diego. House of Iran regularly host events that bring the park some of its largest attendances. These include our weekly Sunday open houses, the Festival of Nowruz, Ethnic Food Fairs, San Diego County/Del Mar Fair, Persian Harvest Festival and our December Nights celebration. We invite you to visit us at House of Iran. While on our website we hope you get a feeling for what it’s like to visit House of Iran. Cyrus The Great also called Cyrus II was born between 590 and 580 BCE in Fars, Iran, and was the leader of the Achamedian Empire, which is arguably the most expansive era of the greater Persian Empire. He was born into a family with an extensive line of leaders, his mother Mandane being the daughter of Astyages, the leader of the Median Empire, and his father being Cambyses who was a local prince. It is widely believed that Astyages had a dream one night that the baby Cyrus would grow up to overthrow him, and thus he ordered the infant to be slain.
